Use the UBC Databases from Home

Accessing UBC Databases

Method #1: EZproxy

The simplest way to use the UBC databases is via the EZproxy.

Using the UBC Library website drill down to the database you want to use

  • Go to UBC Library website at library.ubc.ca
  • Choose “E-resources” > “Indexes and Databases”
  • Choose Alphabetical letter for the database you want (e.g A for “Academic Search")
  • Choose Academic Search
  • Choose the “Connect via the Web” link
  • Enter either your UBC card barcode and PIN OR Choose to enter your CWL (Regent students can request a UBC CWL online at http://helpdesk.regent-college.edu/cwl/).

  • You will be able to access that database until you close the window or tab.

Method #2: Using a Virtual Private Network (myVPN)

An alternative method to use the UBC databases is via myVPN. In order to use myVPN you will need a UBC Campus Wide Login (CWL) account.  (Regent students can request a UBC CWL online at http://www2.regent-college.edu/students/).

Once you have a CWL, follow the myVPN instructions from the UBC library site at library.ubc.ca/home/proxyinfo/.  When the myVPN is set up on your computer you will need to connect to myVPN  at myvpn.ubc.ca and enter your CWL information before navigating to the databases.
